As an end-of-the-year event, on June 1st, 2005 at Sawgrass Spring Middle School, in Coral Springs, Florida, Team 601 held an event called “Peace Picnic”. The purpose of the event was to draw attention to the overwhelming need for young students to find peaceful ways to handle everyday hostilities. The students participated in creating pinwheels and writing poems and mission statements on “What Peace Means To Me”. Afterwards, we made a statement of solidarity by arranging ourselves into a giant Peace Sign and showing the world our hope for peace. Sawgrass Springs will also be participating in the event on September 21st, 2005. Gregg Halkuff |
